bundle-budget

Performance budgets for build output (raw, gzip, brotli) with baselines, Markdown PR reports and CI exit codes.

The problem

A site can launch fast and slow down one dependency at a time, and nobody notices until the scores have already dropped.

How it solves it

bundle-budget measures every file your build produces, checks it against the limits you set, compares it with the previous build, and writes a Markdown report for the pull request. MirrorORG uses it as a guardrail on client sites after launch.

Features

  • Sizes with gzip level 9 and brotli quality 11, the levels CDNs typically serve
  • Per-file and total limits on any glob
  • A warning when a budget passes 90% of its limit
  • Baselines that show the size change per budget
  • Terminal, Markdown and JSON output
  • CI exit codes: 0 within budget, 1 exceeded, 2 a config error
  • No dependencies: only Node's built-in modules
